What are shaft protection sleeves for?
Shaft protection sleeves, or shaft protection bushings, are essential when using gland packing. The correct shaft diameter is only achieved through the use of shaft sleeves to ensure optimum tightness of the packing cord. Shaft protection bushings usually only adhere to the shaft at both ends, in order to better absorb the heat generated by friction between the packing cord and the ceramic coating. A so-called sealing water ring or lantern ring is used to further reduce the heat development here and to optimize the tightness again. In connection with the right amount and the right pressure of the sealing water and also the right packing pressure, the life of a shaft protection bush can be extended.
